Because of a family emergency I had to get a payday loan. Though I already know they are a ripoff I had to do what I had to do.

I received a phone call on Friday saying my payment was due. Since it is easier to pay on the phone then go to the local store I agreed to pay over the amount due(I paid $280). For some reason on the same day they took the initial amount due as well (Amount due was $229). Now we are looking at $500 versus the original amount I agreed to pay.

When I called customer service, they have no record of my $280 payment and sent me to a manager. Now, I can clearly see that my account has two transactions for the same day from these people. When I questioned the manager why they would continue to call and request a payment over the phone if they would take it electronically he accused me of talking over him and tried to cut me off. Anyone has the potential of being rude, especially when involving their money, but I was NOT rude in any since or shape of the word.

Then when I asked for his supervisor I got the 'he's in a meeting' story. Moral of the story, don't agree to make payments over the phone if you are ever so unfortunate to have to deal with a payday loan company. Their customer service department is obviously trained to deal with irate people so that when someone calls and isn't rude, they don't know how to act. First Virginia is the biggest rip off and has the rudest staff imaginable.

Now I have to pay to get my bank statement, go fill out a form at their store, then wait two days for MY money to be returned to me! Did I miss something here?

By the end of the conversation I was so pissed I had to call him a not so nice word and hang up. Somewhere I was really not trying to go.

Monetary Loss: $229.

Location: Suffolk, Virginia

Do not borrow, even if you think you have no other options. I made a payment and have no more due for two weeks and the NEXT DAY they are calling me about my next payment as if I haven't paid.

I told them this is harassment and doesn't make me even want to pay, it makes me want to sue for harassment! WTF!

These people had the nerve to call my mother and say I commited fraud and that they are going to put a warrant out for me!! So I called them highlu pissed and she said since they coulndt get ahold of me that is commiting frau lol these ppl are ridiculous!!!!

If this happens to you it's illegal. Threaten to sue them in small claims court and they will likely settle because they know they did wrong.

Even if they don't settle, it only costs you $25 - $50 max and you can sue for each infraction they are dumb enough to incur. Read up on the FCDPA/Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the TCPA/Telephone Consumer Protection Act. GOD help them if you can catch their butts violating both!

They will owe you more money than you owe them and YOU can force them to pay. Be sure to be as nasty to them as they are to everyone else :) Best of luck!

i've been with these people for a long time (unfortunately, because of finacial reasons) and have NEVER had a problem. If you choose to use ANY payday loan association, expent to pay the interest.

If not, borrow from a relative.

Good luck on that one. If you're here, your relatives don't trust you either.

I haven't had any payments since I try to stay up to date and pay on time. My issue with First Va is they give you these pissy little referral cards to give to potenial customers, ok I did and suppose to receice a $20.00 referral fee credit on my card for each person which were three.

The moral of this story is, get this I personally escorted each refferal to First Va and they used me as their refferal and they told me I could not receive the fee in person they had to bring in my card before I could recive the credit, excuse me @#%@* since when have in person not been better than a paper card. To this date I'm still waiting on my fees.

Can someone direct me to the corporate office, oh by the way noone in the store knows where the office is or how a customer can contact them. They funny.....

Well as far as myself I havnt had any problems. The store I go to is very proffessional and since I make payments on time I have no problems.

I understand that the interest rate is high but banks are higher. They do have program that you can stick with and can be paid off in 6months but you just have to stick with the agreement.

I really feel like if they have to go into your acct to take the funds out then that mean you are not paying your bill. That's jus like your house hold bills if you don't pay it they disconnect you

I have a loan out with first Virginia . I went to make a payment with a money order (a western union money order) at checksmart (the two companies are really the same) and they told me it was $12 to receive the payment from me.

Yes! You heard me right. On top of the crazy intrest already they DID NOT EXCEPT MY PAYMENT unless I agreed to pay them $12to take it. OH BUT THE BEST PART.

One of their collections agents called me while I was AT THE CHECKSMART store trying to make the payment. I told her they wouldn't take the money order.. And all she said was WOW over and over again, and asked me to try and make payment tomorrow. Needless to say I just paid another bill with the money order.

We need to go on the news! This company needs to be shut down!

Last but not least I WAS ON THE PHONE WITH A CONSUMER PROTECTION ATTORNEY WHILE THIS HAPPENED.
